If you go back and read my last post, I promised not to leave such long lapses in between entries. Well, I obviously have not been very good at keeping that promise. Cause that post was dated January 19 and here we are on February 4th and I'm only just adding a post. Where has the time gone? As I get older, time goes by faster and faster. Think back to when you were a kid and you asked how long till your birthday and you were told "1 month". Didn't that month seem to take forever? You wait for what seems like an endless month to get to the day itself. Now a month is a bleep in time. This is probably because when you experience something for the very first time more details, more information gets stored in your memory. Think about your first kiss. The touch of the lips, the excitement, the taste, the smell — everything about this moment is novel — you aren't thinking of past experiences, you are starting fresh. When it's the "first", there are so many things to remember. When I was in university I had to take a Philosophy course, not because I wanted to but because I needed a credit to finish my year and I procrastinated with registering and this was the only course I could get into. I learned in class that the brain records new experiences — especially novel and exciting experiences — differently. Apparently our brains use more energy to represent a memory when the memory is novel. So, first memories are dense. The routines of later life are sketchy. The past wasn't really slower than the present. It just feels that way. Clear as mud? Oh well.....enough. I hopefully have distracted you long enough that you've forgotten that it's taken me over 2 weeks to post since the last time. Oopsies.
I have been busy most of today getting my kits ready for my all day class tomorrow. I have a great group of ladies coming over to create with me all day. I'll have coffee and yummies as well as a pasta lunch for everyone, so it promises to be a fun day for all. Here are some sneak peeks of the cards.
This one above is one of my faves. It uses a technique called "Faux Tile", which involves scoring and sponging ink to create the grouting. The card really does look like tile!
Want to see some pretty scenery? I had the chance to visit Deception Pass in Washington State last week. This strait separates Whidbey from Fidalgo Island in the northwest part of Washington. It is so very pretty and scenic and I know I'll be back to visit there again.
Pretty, dontcha think? I do. Nature is awesome, yes?
Today as I arrived home and was emptying my car of groceries, a friend who I haven't seen in about a year jogged by, so she stopped and we talked for a bit. Nice to get caught up with friends. We laughed so much in the half hour that we both stood outside in my driveway. And we promised to meet again for coffee soon. It felt good to connect with her again, specially because we both were quite close when our kids were in elementary school. We would drop our children off and then have coffee in the park outside the school and laugh hysterically at everything and nothing in particular. Laughter is good medicine and friends that make you laugh are worth their weight in gold. The happiest people on the planet are the ones who have deep, meaningful relationships. Did you know studies show that people’s mortality rates are DOUBLED when they’re lonely? WHOA! There’s a warm fuzzy feeling that comes from having an active circle of good friends who you can share your experiences with. We feel connected and a part of something more meaningful than our lonesome existence. So if you have a friend who you've lost contact with, why not reconnect. Seek them out, google them and find out where they are, send them an email, CONNECT. You will be happy to have done so.
