....from Hawaii that is. We had a wonderful week away. I wish we could have stayed longer. Here are some more pics.
Alyssa on Waikiki Beach, waiting for the fireworks to start to celebrate King Kamehameha Day.
We learned a lot about this holiday while we were there. Apparently in years past all the Hawaiian islands were at war, each one having their own King. King Kamehameha had help from allies in North America, specifically George Vancouver. This was particularly interesting to us, seeing as we are from Vancouver! Our city of course was named after him. Apparently all the Kings and their men fought with spears and George Vancouver gave King Kamehameha a cannon! So of course, this enabled him to conquer all the islands and unify all of them to create the Hawaiian islands as they are now. Every year on King Kamehameha Day, there is a parade. We were lucky enough to have the parade go right by our hotel.
The applause was overwhleming when the brave men and women who serve selflessly to keep us safe walked by. Thank you to all of you who fight for our freedom.
We had so much fun on this holiday and cannot wait to go back. We definitely plan to do so.
It's been over a week since we got back, and I've been busy. We had the whole family over to celebrate Alyssa's 14th birthday this past Friday, so I was busy getting ready for that. Also, the Tuesday after we returned we went to see the Buddy Holly Story at the Stanley. Buddy Holly was before my time, but I do know quite a few of his songs because I remember my parents listening to his songs. Doug & I had a wonderful night out!
So, I'm slowly getting back into the swing of things at work and in my studio at home. Here is a card that I will be featuring in a future class. I am busy with classes here at home. Thanks to everyone who has signed up and who continue to come to my classes. I enjoy teaching you all!
