GOLD!

What a stressful day it has been so far!!!  Today was the gold medal game in hockey for the Vancouver 2010 Olympics and what a game it was!  Our golden boy Sidney Crosby rammed the puck home in sudden death overtime handing Canada our hockey gold and giving our country its 14th gold medal -- the highest gold medal count ever won by a country at any Olympic Games.  We love that we have that record now, but I know I speak for my fellow Canadians when I say that we would have gladly given up that record for this one single hockey gold.  Oh, so sweet. 

 

So, tonight is the Closing Ceremonies -- gonna watch it with friends and enjoy the end of our terrific 2 week party.  Vancouver will never be the same!

I will be back to posting cards, etc tomorrow.  I already have the card ready and it has already been photographed.....but for now, I'm bathing in the golden hue and cherishing every minute of it. 

 

The Lack of Blogging - My Apologies

So sorry for the lack of blogging......living in the Olympic city is hectic!  Every day is a party --there's so much to do and see downtown! Mix that in with working full time, and I'm left with no time to blog.  But I promise that as soon as the Olympics are over, I'll update the blog with a new card and other good stuff!  In the meantime here is what my family & I have been busy doing!

Our Royal Canadian Mounted Police -- ready for duty at all times!

 

Even the store windows along Vancouver's famed Robson Street are all decked out in the Olympic winter theme!.....I love the ski and evening gown look!

 

We walked all over downtown, then took a much needed break sitting on the steps by the Robson Ice Rink.  Each of the steps has been painted to look like a winter mural.  So cool!

 

Downtown is busy!  And everywhere you look, you see the same thing.  The Canadian Maple Leaf!

Just a Bit of Shading.

As most of you know, I like simplicity.  Less is more, ya' know?  Here are some very simple cards....and the only technique involved is a bit of shading.  First, cut out a rectangle from scrap paper.  This will be your stencil which you will use to create a shaded area.

 

Use a sponge and your choice of ink.  Pounce up and down within the cutout with your inked up sponge and you will end up with this below.

 

As you can see I used blue and green.  To create the dual color, simply sponge all over first with one colour (blue in this example), move your stencil a bit to one side and sponge with a coordinating colour (green in this example).  This creates a background to offset your image.  

 

And here are the final cards.  I used copic markers to add colour to plain gems so they match my project.  As a last finishing touch, I used a white gel pen to doodle around my central image.  Below is a close up.

 

Shading is fast and easy .....try it! 
 
 

Fave New Color Combo and Olympic Fever!

I have been playing with my stamps and paper today and I must say I am hooked on this colour combo.

 

Bermuday Bay, Cameo Coral and So Saffron.  It is totally addicting and it's all I want to use at the moment!

 

 

The flower stamps I used are from the Embrace Life set.  This card does involve having to cut the flowers out and gluing them onto the card, but I love to cut, so no worries there.

In work news, I am back working downtown and I have to share the window display at the store I work at.  It is all done up with the Canadian Maple Leaf in the Olympic colours of green and blue -- so eye catching!

 

 

The Olympics start this coming Friday, Feb. 12 and the Olympic torch relay will go right by the store on this day at around 11:30 AM.  The whole place is abuzz with that Olympic electricity and this week the Slovakian Women's Hockey team came in to browse and shop.  Was I excited??......heck, yeah!  I'll bring my camera everyday and try to take pics.  It's a hard call, cause I hate asking strangers if I can take a pic with them.....after all I want our visitors to think that Canadians are friendly.....not crazy stalkers.  But you better believe that if the Canadian Men's Hockey Team make an appearance, I WILL turn into a stalker and ask for a pic!!
