There's nothing like a handmade gift or card. Just knowing that you are worth it enough that the person giving you the gift has taken the time to make it themselves is enough to give you the warm fuzzies. At least, that's how I feel. When I get a handmade gift, no matter what it is, I love it right away. That's cause I know the work that goes into making handmade items. Here are a couple of the gifts I gave out this year.
For all my nieces and nephews -- movie coupons are always useful. They watch movies all the time. So to package them in a festive way, I used my Making Memories Slice to create a bag topper. I got this idea from Fleur, who I work with -- and you will see Fleur's original idea in this post as well. This is what I did:
Each package had 2 movie coupons and some chocolate kisses and chocolate truffles. All my nieces and nephews received a package this year. Then for my niece Taren and her soon to be groom, Chris who have just purcahsed a home, I gave them this:
They just purchased a new home and I made them his and hers tins full of chocolate nuggets. I made a blue one for Taren and a brown one for Chris. Taren is super organized and she has set up their laundry hampers in color code -- blue for her and brown for Chris! Thus the color choices!
This was fun to make. I got the clear top tins here. To decorate, I just stamped a strip of white cardstock measuring 1 1/4 X 11 inches using a single stamp which I stamped all along the strip. To attach the stamped piece around the tin, I used Terrific Tape which you can get at Clipper Street or here. This tape is super strong and will guarantee that your paper sticks where you want it!
Now the following pics are handmade cards that I received from the staff at Clipper Street. I love managing the Richmond branch of this store -- and the icing on the cake is that I get to work with the best group of ladies who love their jobs and who always give their very best at work. The day of the big snow, I was so stressed out when I got to work cause I was slipping and sliding all the way in, driving on the icy streets and then when I got to work, the parking lot had not been plowed and I got stuck in my little putt-putt car so I had to get out and dig myself a path so that I could park. When I got into the store, I had a whole load of presents waiting for me from all the girls -- from chocolate to cookies, to Starbucks coffee and gift cards! And each one had a beautiful handmade card attached. All the frustration I was feeling with having to deal with the crappy snow instantly disappeared and I almost started to cry when I saw all that was waiting for me inside. To all the ladies I work with -- thanks so much, you guys make going to work a joy. Thank you for putting up with me and my crazy ways.....you know what I'm talking about....!
From Lindsey -- this breathtaking card!
Lindsey used Hampton Art Stamps and Basic Grey paper to create this awesome card. Get to know Lindsey here.
Thanks, Lindsey!
From Fleur:
Fleur used a glassine bag as a holder for peppermint candy candes and chocoalte! Fleur's gift was the inspiration for the movie ticket toppers that I made for my neices and nephews. Thanks for the inspiration, Fleur-- and thanks for the goodies! Read about Fleurhere. And check out Fleur's blog -- the link is on the right side bar. I also received a chinese takout container full of chocolate, cookies and yummy tarts from Ashley -- and if you ask me why there isn't a picture.....well I can lie and say my camera's batteries are dead, but sadly the reason why there isn't a picture is because the package had been attacked and the contents all devoured by some screaming and ravenous children. MINE. Below are the beautiful handmade cards made by Maria and Sabrina. Sabrina got me an awesome set of hand creams and Maria got me a gift card which I already used to buy some naughty stuff.....Maria, thanks so much! You know me so well. Wink...wink.
Woo Hoo I'm mentioned in someone elses blog, LOL.
